This city is too many lights,
to look down upon with a clear heart
The walls too thick,
to run through and find yourself again
The whores too tired,
to not be whores again
The air too thin,
to have the stomach for rain
The dead too many,
too late
The windows too many to look into,
too few to look out from,
An honest man's ego too small,
to die for some good
The sidewalks too wide,
too small to sleep on
The faces with too many teeth,
too few to show and fewer that bite
The heights of rage too small,
too big for your convenience
It is never quiet in the city,
And it is never strange
to look down upon with a clear heart
The walls too thick,
to run through and find yourself again
The whores too tired,
to not be whores again
The air too thin,
to have the stomach for rain
The dead too many,
too late
The windows too many to look into,
too few to look out from,
An honest man's ego too small,
to die for some good
The sidewalks too wide,
too small to sleep on
The faces with too many teeth,
too few to show and fewer that bite
The heights of rage too small,
too big for your convenience
It is never quiet in the city,
And it is never strange
Hun u need a vacation. to a place where whores aren't tired, rage has been subdued and strange is accepted
ReplyDeleteHaha..I'll laugh to that...maybe i do....
ReplyDeleteholyheck, manik, this is brilliant. so much to consider. this, my favorite,
ReplyDeleteAn honest man's ego too small,
to die for some good.
oh, and this too,
The heights of rage too small,
too big for your convenience .
and you end it in such a surprising way. i want to shake the city. surely it is strange. surely (?)

Well Erin stole my thunder. The ego line my favorite as well. And the ending surprised me, as I find there is always strangeness in the city, but perhaps even strange becomes commonplace and therefore, no longer odd at all. There is too much of everything in the city for me. It is busy dividing my attentions in a thousand ways.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of what I was trying to say about strength. There are two distinct tacts to take on any one thing. A sidewalk too wide for one, is too narrow for another. Nice piece!
erin,
ReplyDeletethank you for your kindness..i have been for some time at the bottom of this city..trying to dissect it with my blunt conscience ..a city does have a personality of its own i guess..and i don't want to be friends with this one...
Annie,
Its always good to have you here..and as you say there is too much of everything in the city for me....i found that out for myself as well....Its amazing how we can be so far apart and equally displeased about our surroundings...
