Harvest pt2

His auburn skin is just another
swatch to keep a group of leaning trees
above the ground,
Stretched all the way back home is the
feeling of having come too far,
Behind his back, familiar with the sky's
dementia as with her husband's
mother knits with fingers dashed
with partial moistness
the coffins of her last two prayers

Desert Rain

The sky thickens like a recent
memory of being sullen
as the gentle thudding of his mother's
footsteps,is just as deafening as
the feeling of a raindrop
slinking down his spine,
It is poisonous,as if father rescued
them rain drops from his last breath,
and mother o mother you can't help but smile,
you can't help but smile

  1. Mmmmm. This might be your best so far for me. "coffins of her last two prayers" feel like my bookends, viselike. And then this cool splash of water on a hot face, as the very literate and educated prose change form. "them raindrops." I couldn't help but smile.

Stretched all the way back home is the feeling of having come too far, and returning from not far enough. Life is as complicated as it is simple. There is the atom. There is the universe, and us left to find our place therein.

  2. It is poisonous,as if father rescued
them rain drops from his last breath,

here, and how you bring it home, the repetition, almost song-like quality,
and mother o mother you can't help but smile,
    you can't help but smile
    ,
causes me to smile. i wonder on the larger story. i worry about your relationship to it. and then i laugh at myself. whatever history you have been through, here you are as you are, made through it.

  3. Annie,
well said..yes we are finding our place....and perhaps the universe in us....in acceptance...as god always will...

    Erin,
the larger story is often what misses out everywhere...in these words is as close i came...it may have the song-like quality....but nobody is singing....nobody....thank you for visiting...
